Location and people

Obio/Akpor was created on 3 May 1989 from the former Port Harcourt LGA and is part of the Port Harcourt metropolitan area. It covers about 260 square kilometres. The headquarters is at Rumuodomaya. It is home to the Ikwerre people and a large population from across Nigeria. The 2006 census counted 462,350 people.
